I’ve been thinking about media and how it is more than just entertainment. There are things that we can actively learn or take away from media that we can use in life.
Books are a perfect example. Never have a read a book and walked away stupider or without learning something. At the very least it has given my mind something to think and about and he inspired by. Books can be thought provoking. They are the only media that you can go at your own pace. Stop. Came back to. Or never return at all.
Music also has great potential as a source of inspiration. Lyrics that speak to you and help you get through the day. They often have deeper meaning then you think. All you have to do is listen.
Movies. Man do I love movies. An easy way to lose a couple hours in a completely new world. A common topic in casual conversation. A common binding force for those that have shared The experience.
Games , more specifically video games are perhaps the most controversial In their worth as media, and the newest of the media formats. Time after time they are blamed for violence seen on the news. But they have the greatest interaction between media and consumer. It can change and evolve around the player. You can play it by yourself and with your friends. And now, more than ever it is easy to buy and create games. And that is why, they are my favorite media. What’s yours?
Got a chance to test my headphone more extensively today (Fireye Mini Amp). Some quick notes:
- Thought my amp was broken, turns out the one that comes out of the box is crappy
- Once it was working i could conclude some points via some tests:
1. It does not make too much of a difference in dance music. Maybe because dance music is simplistic in nature and does not have to be high quality anyway.
2. I then tested it on BBNG – Earl. Replaying the same 1 minute section the diffrence was noticable. With the amp the cello felt more infront of me, the effect of the instrument playing was more profound? (left and right) and I was able to discren instruments more clearly.
I hope i’m not falling victim to bias and paying more attention with the amp in but I guess only time (and blind tests) can tell.

I have finally finished my examinations, taking my last exam (Biology Multiple Choice) this morning! It has been a pretty normal few weeks for me. Studying for an exam the night before, taking it, gaming, studying and sleeping. Rinse repeat. Asides from a standout weekend in the mix, not much has happened.
I’m actually quite free during exams because exams are so spread apart and you don’t have to go to school if you don’t have that subject! I’m actually more free than I am when I have normal school. Kinda looking forward to it though, going back to routine. Hopefully I will start doing goals and my daily reading and exercising again.
Loving the new wordpress update as well! Really fresh and clean layout and coloring.
My friends are also really into Battlefield 3 and League of Legends again! Been working on my moleskine tons as well.
Also discovered soundcloud (SO MUCH FREE MUSIC) and twitch.tv. I also have become an internet hoarder, downloading anything that’s free.
We needed to get out of town. My family had been confined in Hong Kong for too long. We needed to get out and see the world. Most holidays we just go to a local hotel and hunker down a few days. This Christmas holiday we finally got out of our comfort zone and went to Hong Kong for a few days.
I think the best time to listen to music is when your on transportation. There’s less to distract you from the music, and you can sit down and have a good, thorough listen. I toke the opprtunity to listen to BadBadnotGood, a free jazz-rock album created in 10 hours by people less then 21 years old. It’s amazing. Get it here. My brother Louis got seasick on the way there, poor fellow. He wanted to go home, even as we waited in line at immigration. Fighting through lines of fellow immigrants and traffic we finally arrived at our hotel, The Excelsior!
The hotel itself was not very good. Two single beds for the 4 of us in the size no a great deal bigger than my room. Thankfully it was located in a ideal spot for our planned shopping. Everything was within walking distance, and even our hotel was connected to a small mall.
For lunch we had lunch at our favorite Japanese restaurant. They always have amazing service and food. Following typical Ieong behavior we had coupons from our membership entry from our last trip to Hong Kong.
I notice this every time I go to Hong Kong, but there is a lot more pretty girls over there. Pretty eye popping.
Our first stop was at Muji, a giant retailed that sell things from pens to cardigans. Normally I would go crazy and pick up things that I have a distinct liking for, but this time there was a twist. My mom had given a certain amount of money to spend, and after I was done that was it. I had to be careful. This was good, because it forced me to make better decisions and only get things I truly liked. The budget crisis had begun. I winced as I rejected on legions of stationary and clothes but finally found this beautiful planner for 2013. A very good alternative than the moleskine I planned to buy.
